Certain industries in Los Angeles are more prone to employment discrimination than others. This discrimination can include a variety of factors including gender discrimination, age discrimination and the like. If this type of issue regarding equality in the workplace is systemic, it might be the foundation for a full investigation by the federal government. Such is the case with Hollywood and the allegations that women are discriminated against as a matter of course. Those who believe they have been affected by this in any way need to be aware of the investigation to keep track of whether or not they can file a lawsuit.
Branches of the American Civil Liberties Union states that the federal government is examining whether or not women are being discriminated against in Hollywood. The probe has been launched by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. The investigation begins after federal and state agencies were asked to conduct an investigation into discrimination against female directors in the entertainment industry.
In May of 2015, a public letter was sent to the federal government regarding how female directors are treated in Hollywood. Discriminatory behaviors were related by 50 female directors in how they were recruited, screened and evaluated. There was also an absence of enforcement regarding agreements that were made to raise the number of females and other minorities being given roles. These investigations coincide with the paucity of minorities and females who are in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and attempts to sow greater diversity.
Since the entertainment industry employs a large number in the Los Angeles area, the discriminatory treatment can come in multiple forms and affect a great many people. This investigation might come as a welcome bit of news for those who believe they have faced employment discrimination. However, the protections against being discriminated against are still in place regardless of any investigation. Speaking to a legal professional about a case in which there has been discrimination due to gender can help with a possible legal case.
