After working for the former NBA star since 2004, a personal flight attendant was fired, apparently for being seven minutes late. The 45-year-old woman is alleging that she was fired for other reasons, including her age. She has filed a lawsuit for age discrimination, wrongful termination and labor code violations against Magic Johnson Entertainment and the aviation company she worked under on the private jet.
According to the suit, the woman injured her wrist in 2010 and took some time off. A "substantially younger" flight attendant took over for her while she recuperated. According to the woman, when she returned from her leave, Johnson behaved differently towards her. After being seven minutes late for a flight (time she says she spent waiting at a deli for Johnson's specific preferences), she was fired. The lawsuit notes that she was "immediately replaced" with the younger flight attendant.
The woman claims that she was totally blindsided by the firing, and that because she was falsely terminated, the circumstances have made it so that she cannot find new work as a flight attendant. This has been seriously detrimental to her ability to find gainful employment in her industry, and has likely caused financial hardship for her and her family.
For most people, being fired by a celebrity isn't something they need to worry about. However, facing termination based on potentially faulty circumstances can happen to anyone. For people who are suddenly fired or feel that they have been discriminated at work due to age, an experienced attorney can be an excellent resource in helping to receive justice and compensation for the time they were unable to find new work.
